Stephen Long - Assistant Professor of
Political Science and International Studies at the University of
Richmond
About our Guest Speaker:
Dr. Stephen Long earned his Ph.D. from the University of North
Carolina in 2005. He is an Assistant Professor of Political
Science and International Studies at the University of Richmond,
where he teaches courses on international relations, focusing on
conflict and security.
His research focuses on the causes of war, victory and defeat in
war, and the spread of civil wars to neighboring countries. His
most recent publication used statistical analysis of trends in
all civil wars since 1945 to predict the chances of regional war
in the Middle East after American withdrawal from Iraq.
He received the University of Richmond's Academic Advisor of the
Year award in 2011 and will be featured in the Princeton
Review's book "The 300 Best Professors" in 2012. He lives in
Richmond's West End with his wife, Debbie, and their
two-year-old son, Grant.
